<p><strong>Overview:</strong> We are seeking a skilled Legal Scopist to join our team on a freelance basis. As a Legal Scopist, you will play a crucial role in the transcription and proofreading process of legal documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards. This position offers flexible hours and the opportunity to work remotely.&nbsp;Please note this is a 1099 independent contractor position.</p>



<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Transcribe Legal Documents:</strong> Transcribe and edit rough drafts of legal documents, including court proceedings, depositions, and testimonies, ensuring accuracy and completeness.</li>



<li><strong>Proofread and Edit:</strong> Review transcripts for grammar, punctuation, clarity, and consistency, adhering to specific client preferences and guidelines.</li>



<li><strong>Research and Verify:</strong> Verify names, places, and facts mentioned in transcripts to ensure accuracy and consistency.</li>



<li><strong>Collaborate with Court Reporters:</strong> Work closely with court reporters to clarify unclear or inaudible portions of transcripts.</li>



<li><strong>Meet Deadlines:</strong> Complete assignments within specified timeframes while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.</li>



<li><strong>Maintain Confidentiality:</strong> Handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.</li>
</ul>



<p><strong>Requirements:</strong></p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Experience:</strong> Proven experience as a scopist or in a similar role within the legal transcription or court reporting field.</li>



<li><strong>Skills:</strong> Excellent typing skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in grammar and punctuation.</li>



<li><strong>Software Proficiency:</strong> Familiarity with transcription software (e.g., Case CATalyst, Eclipse, DigitalCAT) and word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word).</li>



<li><strong>Knowledge:</strong> Understanding of legal terminology and procedures preferred.</li>



<li><strong>Education:</strong> High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in legal transcription or court reporting is a plus.</li>



<li><strong>Communication:</strong> Strong verbal and written communication skills.</li>
</ul>

<li><strong>Schedule:</strong> Flexible hours; ability to meet deadlines and accommodate varying workload demands.</li>

<p><strong>Compensation:</strong></p>

<li>Compensation will be based on a per-page or per-project basis, commensurate with experience and industry standards.</li>



<li>This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and benefits.</li>



<li>Compensation will be based on an hourly rate or project basis, to be discussed during the interview process:<br>

<li><strong>Proofreader:</strong> .50 to $1.00 per page</li>



<li><strong>Scopist:</strong> $1.00 (depo) to $1.75 (Trial &amp; Hearing) per page</li>
